The Washington Commanders loved what wide receiver Treylon Burks showed in limited opportunities last year. So, it was no surprise on Friday when it was revealed that Washington re-signed the former first-round pick to a one-year contract worth up to $4 million.
Burks, 25, played collegiately at Arkansas, earning All-SEC honors in each of his three seasons. The Tennessee Titans used the No. 18 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to select Burks — the same draft that Washington selected wide receiver Jahan Dotson.
Unfortunately for Burks, things didn’t go as planned in Tennessee. There were quarterback issues, but Burks’ biggest problem was injuries. During his time with the Titans, Burks dealt with a turf toe, LCL sprain, torn ACL and fractured collarbone. Out of a possible 51 games in three seasons, Burks appeared in just 27. He had 53 receptions for 699 yards and one touchdown for the Titans. He was waived on October 7. One week later, the Commanders signed Burks to their practice squad, with the intent of adding him to the 53-man roster.
Burks would appear in eight games for Washington, recording 10 receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown came against the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football and was arguably the NFL Catch of the Year.
Washington coaches repeatedly praised Burks for his work ethic and practice habits. General manager Adam Peters also praised Burks, so it was no surprise the Commanders brought him back. With Burks signed, Washington now has four receivers under contract for 2026: Terry McLaurin, Jaylin Lane, Luke McCaffrey and Burks. The Commanders are expected to pursue receiver help when free agency begins next week.
