Rodgers: ‘I don’t want to live in Louisiana’
So just who is going to play quarterback for the New Orleans Saints this year? Derek Carr is retiring and Jake Haener is going to miss the summer recovering from an oblique muscle injury, so the likeliest answer is either Spencer Rattler or rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough. And if Aaron Rodgers has anything to say about it (and he does), it won’t be him.
While fielding questions from the crowd before a concert in Texas, Rodgers was asked by a fan if he’d consider signing with the Saints.
“No,” Rodgers replied flatly. He laughed and continued, “That’s the answer. No, I’ve played there a couple times. But no. The answer is no. I’m too old, I don’t want to live in Louisiana. Sorry.”
Rodgers previously didn’t list the Saints among his potential landing spots, and after being cut by the New York Jets his only real opportunity seems to have come from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rodgers has been stringing the Steelers along for months now but it doesn’t appear a signing is imminent. His disinterest in even using the rumor of interest from the Saints as leverage in contract talks with Pittsburgh speaks volumes. But this much is clear: if the 10-time Pro Bowler does suit up in 2025, he won’t be doing so in New Orleans.
