Pittsburgh Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. is hit from behind by Bills OL Connor McGovern while tackling Stefon Diggs – Ed Thompson / Steelers Now
The Pittsburgh Steelers forge ahead with a promising, young offensive line, but could have a hole to fill if they don’t bring back veteran free agent guard Isaac Seumalo. Mike McCarthy could have reunited with a familiar face, but the door was shut on that option on Saturday.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Connor McGovern and the Buffalo Bills have agreed to a four-year, $52 million deal that will keep him from testing free agency waters.
The Dallas Cowboys drafted McGovern, a Penn State product, in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played for McCarthy for three seasons in Dallas before leaving for Buffalo on a three-year, $22.3 million deal. He transitioned from guard to center for the Bills, but presumably could’ve made the move back to his previous position had he landed somewhere else.
According to TruMedia, McGovern was fifth in the NFL in pass block win rate (97.2%) and allowed six sacks last season.
Spotrac tabs Seumalo, who’s 32 and spent the last three seasons with the Steelers, as having the market value for a three-year, $28.8 million deal. Seumalo made 44 starts in Pittsburgh after a seven-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles.
At the recent NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Steelers decision-makers met with guard prospects in Texas A&M’s Chase Bisontis and Oregon’s Emmanuel Pregnon.
