Wooden, who recently completed his third season with the Packers, is expected to bolster the Colts’ run defense. Conversely, the Green Bay Packers are filling a crucial linebacker vacancy with the addition of Zaire Franklin. This move strongly suggests the Packers are preparing to move on from free agent linebacker Quay Walker, whose fifth-year option was declined last spring. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Green Bay had made efforts to re-sign Walker but now appears set to part ways with their former first-round pick. Franklin, who will turn 30 before the 2026 season, brings a veteran presence and a history of high-level production. Although his 2025 season saw him tally 125 total tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble, with a PFF coverage grade of 29.9 (87th out of 88 linebackers), his 2024 performance was notably stronger. In 2024, Franklin earned Pro Bowl and Second Team All-Pro honors, leading the league with 173 total tackles, alongside five forced fumbles and two interceptions.
Franklin has spent his entire eight-year NFL career with the Colts since being drafted in the seventh round in 2018. Wooden, a defensive tackle, will now complete the final year of his rookie deal in Indianapolis after three seasons with the Packers.
