Wide receiver Romeo Doubs is set to hit the open market, as talks with the Green Bay Packers did not result in a new deal, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Doubs is expected to have a slew of suitors in free agency, and the Pittsburgh Steelers could be one of them. The Steelers have a massive need at wide receiver, and Doubs has ties to Aaron Rodgers from their time together in Green Bay. Rodgers hasn’t committed to returning for another season with the Steelers, but expectations are that the four-time MVP will reunite with Mike McCarthy.
Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus thinks Doubs would be an ideal fit for the Steelers in free agency, especially due to his connection with Rodgers. Rodgers and Doubs spent the 2022 season as teammates.
In 2025, Doubs caught 55 passes for 724 yards (13.2 average) and six touchdowns.
“With the Steelers hiring Mike McCarthy, the team will likely invest more in its offense as it attempts to better a unit that placed 20th in EPA per play. Finding a running mate for D.K. Metcalf would go a long way in doing so,” Locker wrote.
“Doubs has been a solid option over the last three seasons with a 78.6 PFF receiving grade. Since 2024, he also sits in the 75th percentile in receiving grade vs. single coverage. The 25-year-old former Packer could reunite with Aaron Rodgers (if he returns) and should have little trouble learning McCarthy’s terminology.”
The Steelers are currently projected to have $46,227,382 in cap space this offseason, which is the ninth-most in the NFL, according to Over The Cap.

Doubs has exceeded expectations as a fourth-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. Since entering the league, he has recorded 202 catches for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns.
The Steelers will likely be in on Doubs with only wide receivers DK Metcalf, Ben Skowronek and Roman Wilson under contract for 2026. The Steelers have a ton of cap space, but they might be wary about overpaying for Doubs.
“I don’t think Doubs will clear $20 million per year on his next contract, but his absolute floor should be in the $13-14 million range,” Austin Gayle of The Ringer wrote. “It might be a mistake for a team like the Raiders or Titans to overpay him to be the focal point of their offense, but he could quickly become a major value signing as a WR2 at $15 million to $18 million per year.”
