And just like that, the top targeted running back in 2026 free agency is off the market. Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker has agreed to a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to multiple reports. The contract is worth $43.05 million ($14.35 million per year on average), according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
The Denver Broncos and Chiefs were among the teams expected to be in contention for the running back, who was not tagged by the Seattle Seahawks at the franchise tag deadline. Seattle now seems content letting Walker go.
Walker joins Kansas City, which missed the playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era last fall. Walker joins offensive mastermind Andy Reid, but might be without Mahomes early in the season, as the QB recovers from an ACL tear.
Walker’s last time playing the Broncos was brutal for the Denver defense. Walker rushed 20 times for 103 yards and one touchdown in a 26-20 Seattle win in quarterback Bo Nix’s Broncos debut in 2024. Walker will now face defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and the formidable Denver defense twice per year.
Denver won the AFC West in 2025 for the first time since 2015, and will look to do so again in 2026, but the team will have to look elsewhere for a running back.
