Marcus Mariota will remain in the nation’s capital a little longer.
According to an ESPN report on Monday, the veteran quarterback from Hawaii will re-sign with the Washington Commanders for one year and $7 million, with incentives for up to $11 million.
Mariota, an 11-year NFL veteran out of Saint Louis School who has played for five franchises, served as Jayden Daniels’ backup the last two years. He saw action both years, especially in 2025-26 as Daniels suffered myriad injuries. Mariota, 32, started eight of the 11 games he played and compiled 1,695 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 61.2% of his throws.
The Commanders went 2-6 in his starts and finished 5-12 a season after reaching the NFC Championship game.
It will be the longest stay with one franchise for the former Heisman Trophy winner at Oregon since he was drafted by Tennessee second overall in 2015 and played five seasons for the Titans.
