The play of the Vikings’ special teams in 2025 had a big impact; they were able to stay in games and even end the game on a winning streak when all hope was lost. Now, the team will be looking for a new key piece in the unit after the New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with one of their free agents.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the New Orleans Saints and punter Ryan Wright agreed to a four-year, $14 million deal. The deal allows for Wright to return to where he played his college football at Tulane.

Wright signed with the Vikings in 2022 as an undrafted free agent and beat out Jordan Berry for the starting job as the team’s punter. Wright was around the league average in most categories, but one area where he made the biggest impact was not in the box score. His role as the holder for kicker Will Reichard was pivotal in his bouncing back from a preseason and training camp where he was shaky at times.

However, the special teams losses may not be done as long-snapper Andrew DePaola is still on the market.
