Four days after the Raiders agreed to trade star defensive end Maxx Crosby to the Ravens for two first-round draft picks, the deal is off.

On social media Tuesday night, the Raiders posted: “The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby.”

ESPN reported that Crosby failed his physical, which would void the trade. He had surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his knee two months ago and was in Baltimore on Tuesday, presumably for medical exams.

The cancelled trade will have repercussions around the NFL. The Bears had been monitoring the Crosby market and were the favorite to land him as recently as a week ago.

Like many teams, the Bears have agreed to deals with pending free agents that will only become official once they pass physicals after the league year opens Wednesday. They have an estimated $9 million in salary-cap space left, according to Spotrac. Crosby has a 2026 salary-cap hit worth almost $36 million.

Teams can create extra cap space by restructuring contracts, but general manager Ryan Poles said this month the Bears would be careful about how much of those financial obligations they push into the future.

The Raiders spent big this week, with center Tyler Linderbaum’s guaranteed $60 million their biggest outlay. They’re expected to have cap room left to put Crosby back on the roster without scuttling any free-agent deals, but they’ve lost leverage. Any team wanting to trade for Crosby will offer less than the 2026 and 2027 first-round picks the Ravens gave up.

Crosby grew frustrated with Raiders leadership last season, leading to the trade. It’s unclear if he’d be willing to return.
