The 2026 League Year and free agency signing period are set to begin today at 3:00 p.m. CT. The Kansas City Chiefs will officially begin their journey back to the top of the league by reshaping their roster.
The trading period for 2026 also begins at 3:00 p.m. CT, following the expiration of the current 2025 contracts. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach and his staff will seek to secure impact players while assessing the team’s needs to avoid another disappointing season. Incentives and other contract awards could play a significant role in negotiations.
“I think it’s on the rise to a degree, but typically the better you are and the higher profile you are, the less leverage you have sometimes. Then those players follow suit with other players, and everyone does the same thing. I think it’s always been the case whereit varies when you get to the degree of each and every player,” said Veach in regards to contract incentives during his NFL Scouting Combine press conference, “I don’t know to what percent – is it on the rise. I know it’s something that all teams utilize and we do as well, and a lot of it comes down to the caliber of player or the tier of player.”
The first day of the 2026 League Year will end at 10:59:59 p.m. CT on March 12th. Teams will receive a personnel notice containing all transactions submitted to the League office during the period from 3:00 p.m. CT to 10:59:59 p.m. CT on March 11th.
