The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing back a familiar face in Cam Johnston, an Aussie punter who’s spent parts of the last two seasons in black and gold. However, that doesn’t mean that Corliss Waitman is out of the equation.
Steelers long snapper Christian Kuntz appears to have let the cat out of the bag regarding the team’s plan at punter as it enters next season.
“Both Cam and Corliss are two pro punters,” Kuntz said Tuesday on Steelers Nation Radio. “Regardless of if they’re here competing with each other, they’re two of the best in the world. They’re gonna have jobs. … (Cam’s) a great dude, a great human being, an unbelievable punter, great holder, too, and obviously Corliss is, as well.
“I’m excited to have both of them back. Those two love it. They’re two pros, and they compete at the highest level. It just elevates their game and makes them better as punters. I’m sure it’s gonna be a fun training camp again.”

Waitman, 30, is a restricted free agent. He beat out Johnston for the job last season and played in 17 games for the Steelers, averaging 41.7 net yards per punt. He had 26 boots land inside the 20-yard line. He also enjoys the chance to work with Johnston and dive into the intricacies of punting.
“We’re in the NFL, so it’s a competition every year, especially for my career,” Waitman said during training camp last year. “I’ve been in a competitive state every year, so I’m kind of just used to it. Cam, as well. He’s been in the league forever, so he’s used to competing, as well.”
Johnston, 34, spent time with the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants after the Steelers cut him last season. He signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
