The Denver Broncos have signed a former New Orleans Saints wide receiver. Before you break out the bottle of bubbly to celebrate the Broncos signing an outside player, there’s a caveat: it’s as a coach.

Payton has hired former wide receiver Willie Snead as an offensive quality control coach, per NFL insider Joseph Pasteris. Snead had a nine-year career, playing for the Saints, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, and San Francisco 49ers.

Snead, 33, had his best years when Sean Payton was at the helm in New Orleans. In 2015 and ’16, Snead amassed over 100 targets each season, catching 141 passes in those two seasons for 1,879 yards and seven touchdowns. For the rest of his career, he would only catch nine more touchdowns.

Snead also joins a contingent of former players to join Payton’s staff. On staff, Payton has former ex-linebacker Todd Davis (defensive quality control coach), ex-quarterback Davis Webb (offensive coordinator-turned-playcaller), and ex-running back Darren Sproles (who is joining as an intern coach).

The Broncos are in the thick of roster construction and will continue to add to the roster through free agency and the NFL draft. We will continue to keep up to date on all rumors, signings and departures on Broncos Wire.
