After seven years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, safety Andrew “Dewey” Wingard is slated to join the Arizona Cardinals on a reported one-year deal worth up to $4 million.

Wingard agreed to the deal just an hour after the new league year began at 4 p.m. on March 11. Wingard is the latest former Jaguars starter who has agreed to sign elsewhere.

Running back Travis Etienne and linebacker Devin Lloyd agreed to deals with the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers, respectively, ahead of the new league year, during the NFL’s negotiation window.

Wingard, 29, joined Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming in 2019. In seven years with the club, Wingard played in 102 games (44 starts) and was a captain on special teams in 2023.

Wingard’s special teams prowess kept him with the squad, while his ability on defense was crucial on multiple occasions after the team dealt with injuries.

Wingard started 16 games for Jacksonville in 2025, his second season with the club as a full-time starter after rookie third-round pick safety Caleb Ransaw sustained a lower body injury that knocked him out the entire year.

Wingard totaled 84 tackles (45 solos), three tackles for loss, nine pass breakups and an interception in 2025. In his career, Wingard totaled 349 tackles (229 solos), 11 tackles for loss, six quarterback hits, 22 pass breakups and six interceptions.

Jacksonville has a bit of a backlog at safety right now with the resurgence of former fifth-round safety Antonio Johnson, in addition to Eric Murray, Ransaw and rising second-year S Rayuan Lane III.

Jacksonville is likely to continue addressing the position in free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft.
