The Buffalo Bills have their punter for the 2026 NFL season, bringing back Mitch Wishnowsky on a one-year contract, per a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The now-34-year-old Wishnowsky spent the majority of the 2025 season as Buffalo’s punter, providing a stabilizing force to a room that saw roster turnover thanks to performance and injury woes.
Originally from Gosnells, Western Australia, Wishnowsky (aka “The Boomin’ Onion”) punted for the Bills in 13 regular-season games and two playoff matchups, while also adeptly handling kickoff duties to spell kicker Matt Prater — who was dealing with a hamstring injury late during the season and playoffs. Last season with Buffalo, Wishnowsky punted 38 times for 1,723 yards (45.3 yards per punt), a long punt of 62 yards, placing 18 punts inside the 20, allowing just three touchbacks, and giving up just 73 punt return yards.
Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Wishnowsky remained with the Niners through the 2024 NFL season. In seven seasons, Wishnowsky has punted in 105 games, booting 348 footballs a total of 15,820 yards (45.5 yards per punt), with a long punt of 74 yards, placing 156 punts inside the 20, allowing 23 touchbacks, and giving up a total of 1,077 punt return yards.
