Trent McDuffie played for three different Southern California high schools: Mater Dei, Servite and St. John Bosco. During that time, he watched as the Rams made the move from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016.

McDuffie witnessed the coaching style of head coach Sean McVay for the first time while watching HBO’s “Hard Knocks” episodes about the Rams. At the time, the franchise had just hired McVay as head coach and made him the youngest head coach in modern NFL history.
“I remember just being like, ‘Dang, I would like to play for that guy,’” McDuffie told reporters on Thursday, per Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.
Now a decade later, the opportunity to play for McVay has arrived for McDuffie.
The Rams traded its 2026 No. 29 overall pick, fifth- and sixth-round picks for 2026 and a 2027 third-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for McDuffie. Then, Los Angeles signed McDuffie to a record-breaking four-year, $124 million extension to make the two-time Super Bowl champion the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

“Fast forward all these years, and now I’m here and it’s just a full-circle moment,” McDuffie said, per Klein. “Watched this guy, wanted to play for this guy and now this guy wants me.”
McDuffie Wants to Bring A Super Bowl Ring Back To LA
McDuffie won back-to-back Super Bowl championships with the Chiefs during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
He made a third consecutive Super Bowl appearance with Kansas City at the end of the 2024 season. However, the Chiefs ultimately lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. Then, the Chiefs missed the playoffs entirely in the 2025 season.
Despite being just 25-years-old, McDuffie will bring a lot of playoff experience to the Rams. He told reporters the team is ready to win a Super Bowl, and he wants to help them make that final push to a ring.

“This team is ready to go,” McDuffie said. “I don’t think I’m coming in here with a team that doesn’t understand the value that they have. So those little nuggets that I feel I can just pour into guys that can get us over the hump, I’m going to do everything I can.”
The Rams lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game last season. With the Super Bowl set to take place in SoFi Stadium, the Rams are determined to finish the 2026 season as champions.
