John Harbaugh is wasting no time putting his stamp on the New York Giants. Of the team’s early free-agent signings, one of them gives a strong insight into what this team intends to look like starting in 2026.Â
The Giants and all of the team’s fans will be excited to get Cam Skattebo back on the field this coming season after a nasty injury shut him down in 2025. Skattebo is progressing through his rehab, but the team signed a player in free agency who likely made his eyes light up.Â
That player is former Baltimore Ravens fullback Patrick Ricard, who became one of the best lead blockers in the NFL during his time under Harbaugh with the Ravens. Now imagine him being the lead blocker for the ball of energy that is Skattebo?
Ricard recently stated that Skattebo helped recruit him to sign with the Giants.

When looking at seven overlooked free-agent signings that could pay serious dividends this coming season, Bucky Brooks of NFL.com starts his list with the signing of Ricard.
“John Harbaugh might have tipped his hand on his offensive approach with the signing of the six-time Pro Bowl fullback. Over nine seasons, the knockdown specialist known as “Pancake Pat” has served as the lead blocker for the Ravens’ dominant ground game. He’ll now join his former head coach in New York, where the Giants appear to be transitioning into a power running attack with  Cam Skattebo positioned as the featured back. Ricard, a former defensive tackle-turned-fullback, could further elevate an offense that was fifth in rushing yards last season, serving as the pivotal piece to the puzzle in 2026 and beyond”, wrote Brooks.Â
Yes, Harbaugh has most certainly tipped his hand, but defenses are still going to be forced to stop what could become the most physical rushing attack in football.Â
Harbaugh won with a smashmouth style for years in Baltimore and that brand of football can be quite successful in the NFC East. The signing of Ricard won’t get a lot of national media attention, but having him leading the way for a healthy Skattebo next year is not going to be a picnic for any team the Giants face.Â
