The Atlanta Falcons released Kirk Cousins at the start of NFL free agency, but the veteran quarterback has yet to find a new home. While there have been rumors linking Cousins to multiple QB-needy teams, it’s purely speculation at this point.

The Vikings seemed like a logical landing spot for the 37-year-old, considering he spent six seasons in Minnesota before signing with the Falcons in 2024. However, that potential reunion went out the window once the Vikings signed former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray.

Since the New York Jets traded for veteran Geno Smith, and the Cleveland Browns seem content with their current situation, there isn’t a clear landing spot for Cousins at the moment.

ESPN had an interesting idea, suggesting the Green Bay Packers as a potential fit for Cousins next season.

ESPN: Packers are ‘best team fit’ for Kirk Cousins in free agency

“The Packers need a backup quarterback after losing Malik Willis to the Dolphins in free agency,” wrote ESPN’s Bill Barnwell. “They run play-action at one of the highest rates in the league under Matt LaFleur. Jordan Love has missed two games to injury in each of the past two years, so the Packers have to be conscious of their need to have a backup they trust if Love can’t go. While LaFleur might try to find value with another prospect in the same way the Packers once did when they traded for Willis, Cousins would be a solid option as the backup behind Love in 2026.”

The Falcons signed Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract two years ago, but they created an awkward situation by taking Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. After getting off to a hot start, Cousins struggled in the middle of the 2024 season.

Atlanta eventually benched Cousins in Week 16, and went into the 2025 season with Penix as the starter. The veteran QB returned late in the season after Penix suffered a torn ACL against the Carolina Panthers. The Falcons went on a four-game winning streak to close the season before cleaning house.

Cousins appeared in 24 games (22 starts) for Atlanta, passing for 5,229 yards, 28 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. While signing with the Packers makes sense for Green Bay, it’s debatable as to whether or not Cousins would be willing to sign as a backup.

As for the Falcons, they signed veteran Tua Tagovailoa for the league minimum and will have an open competition for the starting quarterback job in 2026.
