It’s been reported that the Los Angeles Rams considered a trade for A.J. Brown, even making a “strong push” for the Philadelphia Eagles star receiver. But as they were discussing a potential move for Brown, the Rams simultaneously explored the possibility of trading away one of their own star receiver.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, the Rams “were pursuing the possibility of trading Adams” at the same time they were talking about a trade for Brown. Ultimately, the Eagles shut down any trade talks for Brown at this time, putting those conversations off until closer to June 1.

At the same time, the Rams are unlikely to trade Adams right now. As Florio points out, Adams was due a fully guaranteed $6 million roster bonus today, making it more costly to trade him now.

Per a league source, the Rams — while talking about a possible trade for Brown — were pursuing the possibility of trading Adams.

The Rams presumably were hoping to get a deal done by today, when a fully-guaranteed $6 million roster bonus came due. And the payment of the bonus likely means they’ll keep Adams and his $18 million base salary.

Adams is coming off his first season with the Rams, leading the NFL with 14 touchdown receptions – the third time in his career he’s finished as the league leader in touchdown catches. He has a $28 million cap hit this year, the second-largest on the team.
