Following the majority of NFL free agency, the Chicago Bears seem to be ready to attack the 2026 NFL Draft. They made some keen free agent signings, but have some holes on the roster that they could use draft picks to improve upon. One outlet’s mock draft has the franchise going in a different direction than anticipated, so let’s take a closer look at who they are taking here.
The Chicago Bears draft a wide receiver in the first round of the CBS Sports mock draft

CBS Sports’s Josh Edwards wrote a three-round mock draft following the first week of free agency. The main focus of this is where the Bears went with the 25th pick, selecting Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. Below is the snippet he provided regarding this pick:
“Ben Johnson wants to be confident in the trio of receivers he has on the field at any given time. Luther Burden III really began to emerge toward the end of the season, but Chicago is leaving nothing to chance as it aims to prove last season was not an aberration. If you’re a Bears fan questioning why the team would draft another receiver, I’d encourage you to think about the possibilities with Johnson pulling the strings.”
Cooper Jr had a great season for the national champions in 2025. He finished with 69 receptions for 937 yards (13.6 yards per catch) with 13 receiving touchdowns. With four picks in the first 90 selections in this year’s draft, they can do this without much pushback. Cooper Jr could simply fill the void left by the DJ Moore trade to Buffalo. Pairing him with Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III could make this offense even more exciting for the future.
It will be intriguing to see how the Bears decide to attack the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
