Although the Indianapolis Colts agreed to a two-year deal with starting quarterback Daniel Jones earlier this offseason, they’re unsure what to do with the Duke product’s backup signal-caller, Anthony Richardson.

Indianapolis could retain Richardson and continue to develop him gradually. However, a recent trade rumor suggests that the franchise might be open to a Richardson-centered deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Baltimore Ravens.

“The Colts are in trade discussions with multiple teams on Anthony Richardson, which could lead to a deal happening this weekend,” Forbes’ Evan Sidery reported Friday. “The Buccaneers, (Kansas City) Chiefs, (Detroit) Lions, (Detroit) Packers, (Los Angeles) Rams, and Ravens are among the teams who checked in. Richardson’s value is believed to be a late Day 3 pick.”

Richardson wouldn’t find it particularly easy to secure the No. 2 spot in Tampa Bay or Baltimore. The Buccaneers recently signed Jake Browning to a one-year deal. While the Washington product has struggled with his accuracy recently, he’s been serviceable in the NFL before (in the 2023-24 season with the Cincinnati Bengals).

Similarly, the Ravens re-signed fan-favorite backup quarterback Tyler Huntley last Monday, who went 2-0 as a starter in Baltimore last season and didn’t commit a turnover.

That said, Richardson’s promising arm talent and mobility could improve his odds of moving up the QB depth chart. The Florida product can’t afford to check himself out of games when fatigued moving forward, though.
