Two Jacksonville Jaguars players now have their 2027 salaries completely guaranteed.
According to Spotrac, Trevor Lawrence and Cole Van Lanen had their salaries for next season become guaranteed. Van Lanen is due a base salary of $15.25 million in 2027, which is now guaranteed. Lawrence’s base salary in 2027, plus his prorated signing bonus, option bonus, and workout bonus, totals $41 million — all of which is now guaranteed.

These 2026 dates that locked in the 2027 guarantees for each player were baked into the original contracts Lawrence and Van Lanen signed, providing more long-term stability for each player.
Currently, the Jaguars are projected to have $49.47 million in cap space for the 2027 season, according to Over the Cap. That figure already takes into account these contract guarantees for Lawrence and Van Lanen, so nothing changes in that regard.
If anything, due to the hefty guarantees, it makes getting out of those contracts much more difficult for the Jaguars, with there being a heavy amount of dead cap that would have to be navigated.

However, with Van Lanen just signing his contract extension in December and Lawrence playing at a high level in his first season under Liam Coen, moving on from either player a year from now shouldn’t be on the Jaguars’ radar.
James Gladstone and the rest of the front office knew these contract guarantee dates were going to take place, and it happened to two players the team is committed to, so from a long-term planning standpoint, there aren’t any adjustments to make for the Jaguars.
