The San Francisco 49ers aren’t done adding experience to their wide receiver group. Just days after making headlines with the signing of longtime star Mike Evans, the team has now brought in another seasoned pass catcher, agreeing to a deal with an eight-year NFL veteran to further strengthen the position.

The move signals that San Francisco is clearly prioritizing depth and experience in its receiving corps as the new season approaches. While Evans’ arrival already gave the offense a major boost, the latest signing adds another reliable option to the mix and reinforces the 49ers’ intention to surround their offense with proven playmakers.

The move was announced by Jordan Schultz on X.

“Sources: The #49ers are signing WR Christian Kirk to a 1-year, $6M deal. Kirk is the latest WR addition in San Fran, after they also signed WR Mike Evans,” Schultz posted.

What Does Christian Kirk Bring to the Table in San Francisco?

Following the headline-grabbing additions, the San Francisco 49ers have now officially brought in veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk.

The 29-year-old enters his ninth NFL season after previous stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars and most recently the Houston Texans. Originally selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Kirk has quietly built a productive career, totaling 432 receptions, 5,415 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns across 106 games.

While his most productive campaign came in 2022 with Jacksonville when he posted 84 catches for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns, Kirk still showed flashes of his playmaking ability last season. His regular-season numbers with Houston were modest, but he stepped up in the playoffs, hauling in 10 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns in two postseason games.

In San Francisco, Kirk is expected to slot into a complementary role within a crowded offense led by quarterback Brock Purdy and head coach Kyle Shanahan. If he can quickly find chemistry in the system, the veteran receiver could become another useful weapon in an offense already filled with dynamic playmakers.
