The Detroit Lions are signing a familiar face for first-year offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.
Petzing, who was hired to replace John Morton, will be reunited with former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Greg Dortch, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
Dortch, 27, caught 29 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns last season in Arizona. In his six-year NFL career, the 5-foot-7, 180-pound receiver has reeled in 145 catches for 1,310 yards and 10 touchdowns. Dortch spent the past three seasons with Petzing as his OC in Arizona, so he will bring an understanding of what Petzing wants to the Motor City.
Throughout his career, Dortch has been a factor in both the punt and kickoff return games. Dortch has 99 career punt returns for 886 yards and 75 kickoff returns for 1,773 yards. With Kalif Raymond signing with the Bears, there’s an opportunity for Dortch to emerge as the primary punt and kickoff return man for Detroit.
Dortch entered the league as an undrafted free agent signing by the New York Jets in 2019. The Wake Forest product appeared in a pair of games with the Carolina Panthers in 2019. Then, after bouncing around practice squads with the Rams and Falcons, Dortch caught on in the Cardinals‘ organization.
