Lost in the opening stages of the 2026 NFL free agency period this offseason was the announcement made regarding compensatory selections awarded to teams across the league.
In total, half of the NFL’s teams (15) were awarded 33 total compensatory picks.
Of those, two were given to the New York Jets. It was expected that comp picks would head to the Jets, and they have in 2026.
The way comp selections are awarded is not an exact formula. It is described by NFL.com as follows:
The compensatory picks are positioned from Round 3 to Round 7, with no team allowed to receive more than four. The formula that determines compensatory free agents is based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.

The free agents bit means the most for the Jets. Two comp picks went to New York because of the departures of offensive lineman Morgan Moses and cornerback DJ Reed in free agency last offseason.
