Houston Texans fans have discovered a new team marketing itself with an oddly familiar logo.

“WHAT THAAAA,” wrote Reddit user Lonely-Turnover-5184.

The screenshot of the Facebook post from earlier this week featured the Mishawaka Iron Bulls, a new semi-pro football team that joined the Gridiron Developmental Football League on March 6. The team is expected to play its first season in 2027. But apparently, it is well aware that its Toro-like logo with a bull face embedded onto the navy blue side looks very much like the Houston Texans’.

“Just to clear the air… The Mishawaka Iron Bulls logo is a completely original design and is not the same as the Houston Texans logo. While both feature a bull concept, our logo includes a distinct full bull head design, unique angles, and different artistic elements that represent our identity and brand.”

The post has since been removed from the Mishawaka Iron Bulls’ Facebook page.

Further down the thread, users found the team even used a picture of Texans’ wide receiver Jaylin Noel in their tryout promo, which is displayed prominently on the team’s Facebook page.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted preliminary approval for the logo as a registered trademark in July 2001 and was officially given trademark status in 2004. That registration has since been renewed several times, more recently, in July 2024.

The USPTO defines trademark infringement as “the unauthorized use of a trademark or service mark on or in connection with goods and/ or services in a manner that is likely to cause confusion, deception, or mistake about the source of goods and/or services.”

For a team that says it is using a  “distinct bull head design” with “different artistic elements,” taking down the original post about not copying the Houston Texans’ toro makes it look like it knows something is off.

The Texans and Mishawaka Iron Bulls have not yet responded to Chron’s request for comment.
