Jake Bobo’s time with the Seattle Seahawks might have just come to an end.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed the wide receiver to an offer sheet, but since he’s a restricted free agent, the Seahawks get five days to match the contract. If they decline to do so, Bobo’s officially a Jaguar.

Field Yates posted the news on X at 12:34 p.m. PST today.

Bobo’s been an ideal depth player for the Seahawks. They signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2023, and he’s been exactly what was promised- great at some aspects of being a wideout, while lacking others. Standing at 6-foot, 4-inches tall and 206 pounds, he’s a big target that could back up DK Metcalf early on. This year, he provided a different look than any of Seattle’s starting receivers, from Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Rasheed Shahid to Cooper Kupp and Tory Horton Jr. Bobo’s frame brought versatility as a blocker and on special teams. He also has surefire dependable hands and will at least catch almost everything thrown his way when he does get open. However, his speed and agility limits him as a route-runner, which is vital to the play-to-play operation of the Kubiak/Shanahan style of offense. That made it tough for him to carve out consistent snaps, even with injuries.

Bobo was a fan favorite, but him finding his first free agent contract elsewhere could turn out to be a win-win for both him and the team. It strengthens their reputation among undrafted rookies and their agents, which allows them to compete for more priority UDFAs year-after-year. Seattle’s also invested in four other receivers right now, who all fit their offensive scheme better. Bobo gets a substantial payday, and possibly a better chance to see snaps on offense, where Jacksonville prioritizes big targets with good hands- and the Seahawks can hope to replace him through the same UDFA market they got him from. Tyrone Broden’s huge frame on the practice squad could also develop into that next big target.
