The Chicago Bears have been active throughout free agency and are looking to plug holes on the roster. After being the second seed in the NFC and winning the NFC North, they need to keep their foot on the gas pedal. While signing more free agents will force some difficult cap decisions, there are some impactful free agents still available. One outlet highlighted some with the best fit for them being the Bears. Let’s take a closer look at one of those players.
Bleacher Report suggests the Chicago Bears should be in play for Taylor Decker

The Bears have some major decisions to make regarding the roster. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote an article discussing the best fits for the top remaining free agents. One of the players on the list is former Detroit Lions offensive tackle Taylor Decker. Chicago was one of the two landing spots for the veteran and below is what Knox wrote about why that is an option:
“Decker may be entering the back end of his career, but he’s still a starting-caliber left tackle and has been for some time. Decker has started 140 games across 10 seasons and was ranked 41st overall among all tackles by Pro Football Focus in 2025.
“While there aren’t many teams lacking a left tackle at this point in the offseason, the Chicago Bears would provide Decker with a perfect pairing. Chicago recently picked up Jedrick Wills Jr.—who hasn’t played since 2024 due to a knee injury—but recently released former starter Braxton Jones. The Bears also employ former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their head coach.”
With the question marks surrounding the left tackle position, getting a veteran like Decker could transform the offensive line. Pairing him with guard Joe Thuney on the left side of the offensive line could make things incredible for the running game as well as protecting Caleb Williams’ blindside. Signing him to a one-year deal could help provide more competition for Jedrick Wills Jr and Theo Benedet in training camp. It would be interesting to see what a contract looks like for this deal, but it would certainly improve the Bears for 2026.
