The Arizona Cardinals have three key fourth-year players who are eligible for contract extensions. One is cornerback Garrett Williams. However, his situation makes it seem like it might not be in the cards this offseason.

Williams is coming off an injury-riddled season, hurting his knee and then tearing his Achilles late in the year. He will likely miss part of the upcoming season before fully recovering.

When general manager Monti Ossenfort was asked about Williams and a potential extension and how the Achilles injury impacts it, it didn’t sound like one was coming.

“I think with any player that’s injured, their first and foremost is they’ve gotta get healthy,” he said at the NFL combine. “Garrett’s one of our guys who’s working hard, he’s been in the facility every day, he’s making good progress and excited to get him to a point where he can get back on the field.”

Williams has had a rough three seasons. His first one was only half a season, coming off a torn ACL in college. In 2024, he was one of the best slot corners in the league. In 2025, between the knee injury and the Achilles injury and playing when he wasn’t 100%, he wasn’t the same player.

It would be surprising if the Cardinals sign him to a long-term deal this offseason. And if he comes back and is great, perhaps we will see him get a lucrative deal as a free agent next offseason.
