The Jacksonville Jaguars missed out on signing wide receiver Jake Bobo. He will remain with the Seattle Seahawks.
However, while Jacksonville’s pursuit of Bobo didn’t work out, there are three things we can learn from their attempt to do so.
Jaguars still looking for help at wide receiver
Although the Jaguars are positioned well at the top of the wide receiver depth chart with Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and Travis Hunter, depth and competition on the back end are still very much a need.
As of now, the other wideouts on the roster are Austin Trammell, Tim Jones, and Chandler Brayboy.

So, whether it be through free agency, the NFL draft, or both, adding to this position is clearly on GM James Gladstone’s radar. With Bobo as our example, here are a few qualities that the Jaguars appear to be prioritizing as they build out the depth of this position group.
The skill sets the Jaguars want on offense
Bobo’s experience on offense in his three NFL seasons is relatively limited. During that span, he has played 782 total snaps, including just 159 snaps last year, and has 36 career receptions for 356 yards with four touchdowns, per PFF.
However, when on the field, Bobo checks many of the boxes that Liam Coen looks for at this position. He’s a very willing blocker in the run game, and although he doesn’t have an abundance of targets in his career, almost all of them have come over the middle of the field. Having a wideout who will attack between the numbers is an important element of Coen’s offense. Bobo also has experience lining up inside and out on offense.
As the Jaguars look to further add to the wide receiver position, keep these qualities in mind because they are important to this offense.
Don’t forget about special teams help
With Thomas Jr., Meyers, Washington, and Hunter at the top of the depth chart, there aren’t going to be many offensive snaps to go around. So whoever else ends up on the 53-man roster better be able to help on special teams.
Bobo has played 636 snaps over three seasons and has regularly contributed to four of the six different phases.
