The Denver Broncos made a big splash during the second week of NFL free agency, trading multiple draft picks to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

During his introductory conference call with Denver media members last week, Waddle was asked what he brings to the team’s wide receiver room.

“I think I just bring another playmaker to the team,” Waddle said. “Someone that can help out and try to make plays to the best of my ability.”

Waddle (5-10, 185 pounds) doesn’t have the size of a typical WR1, but it’s not fair to describe him as a slot receiver, although he will line up there on occasion.

Last season, Pro Football Focus credited Waddle with 128 snaps lined up in the slot and 592 snaps lined up on the outside (plus two snaps in the backfield). It wouldn’t be surprising to see him utilized in a similar way in 2026, primarily lining up across from Courtland Sutton as the team’s second outside receiver.

“I think over my time, I got a chance to play all over the place,” Waddle said of his versatility. “So I think that helps just knowing the offense inside and out, being able to put me in different spots. I think that’s always helpful, just being able to go around and play different positions.”

Waddle is a dynamic receiver who will make plays all over the field. PFF says Waddle totaled 25 receptions for 203 yards and two scores on short passes in 2025 (throws shorter than 10 yards). He was especially productive on mid-range throws (10-19 yards), totaling 29 catches for 511 yards and one score. On deep throws (beyond 20 yards), Waddle hauled in six receptions for 194 yards and three touchdowns.

Waddle averaged 81 receptions for 1,098 yards and six scores through five seasons in Miami. When asked about his personal and team goals ahead of his first season with the Broncos, Waddle gave a team-first answer.

“I wouldn’t say nothing personal,” Waddle said. “I would say for the team, just take it week-by-week. Just try to go out there and play a good brand of football and try to stack some wins together.”
