The Denver Broncos‘ trade to acquire wide receiver Jaylen Waddle surprised fans and pundits when it happened. It surprised some of the team’s players just as much.

During an interview with Vic Lombardi of Altitude Sports, Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims gave his thoughts on the trade and the upcoming 2026 season.

“Yeah, I think it really surprised me, just bringing in a guy like that,” Mims told Lombardi. “If you look at his career, since high school to college to now, he’s an explosive playmaker. I think offensively, we always need more playmakers, and I think he’ll be really fun to watch so, we’ll see how it all comes out this season.”

Mims and Waddle both have dynamic speed and playmaking ability. Mims was asked if he thought Waddle’s addition affected his role. “Yeah, a little bit,” Mims said. “It’s interesting to see how I fit in the offense, but at the end of the day, for me, the past few years, the thing I’ve taken pride in is being able to play running back, be a returner, be a receiver. Any way I can affect the game, I’m happy to go out there and do it.”

Mims’ offensive role may seem ambiguous here, but the fact that Mims is so versatile all over the field makes him valuable. Mims is explosive anywhere on the field, as he had a receiving touchdown, rushing touchdown and punt return for a touchdown in 2025.

Imagining both Mims and Waddle alongside Courtland Sutton on the field at the same time is a tantalizing thought to be sure! It will remain to be seen what will happen, especially with Davis Webb calling the plays in 2026.
