Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald utilized three safety coverage shells at an efficient rate throughout 2025. Unfortunately, that’s going to be slightly more difficult to do in 2026. The Seahawks lost starting safety Coby Bryant to free agency after winning Super Bowl 60.

The Seahawks were disinterested in matching the $40 million contract Bryant signed with the Chicago Bears. John Schneider had to reserve money to sign superstars like Jaxon Smith-Njigba to historic contract extensions. Letting Bryant leave was one of the sacrifices made.

The Seahawks still have Julian Love and Nick Emmanwori at safety. Those are two high-level starters at the position. But when it comes to fielding three safeties, the options now include Ty Okada, D’Anthony Bell, Rodney Thomas II, and AJ Finley. Those are stellar role players, but they represent a pretty significant downgrade from Bryant.

The Seahawks could draft a safety to replace Bryant. According to reports, the Seahawks are hosting LSU safety AJ Haulcy on a pre-draft visit. Haulcy is a versatile prospect who would fit Macdonald’s defense.

Haulcy transferred from Houston to LSU this past season. The now Tigers standout took advantage of the bigger opportunity, registering 89 tackles and three interceptions. Haulcy was super productive in college, totaling 346 tackles and 10 interceptions.

The Seahawks plan to take an extended look at Haulcy.
