The Philadelphia Eagles officially added a veteran presence to their quarterback room on March 24.

The Eagles sent a seventh-round pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for 15-year pro Andy Dalton.

Dalton, a three-time Pro Bowl pick during his nine years with the Cincinnati Bengals, passed his physical, which finalized a trade proposed last week. Dalton will back up starter Jalen Hurts, joining fourth-year pro Tanner McKee as the Eagles’ backups.

Reports indicated earlier this week the Eagles are trying to trade McKee, who appeared in four games last season.

ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter posted the news of the Dalton trade on his X account.

Dalton stands seventh among active NFL quarterbacks (26th all-time) with 39,793 yards. Beginning in his rookie year of 2011, Dalton led Cincinnati to four consecutive playoff appearances. In 2015, the Bengals started the season 8-0 and stood 10-2 when Dalton broke his thumb during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He missed the rest of the season.

Since leaving the Bengals after the 2019 season, Dalton has played for the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints and Carolina, mostly in a backup role.

He started 14 games for the Saints in 2022, turning in a 6-8 record. For the past three years, Dalton has served as a backup and mentor for Carolina starter Bryce Young.

The Eagles finished 11-6 in 2025 and won the NFC East one year after winning the Super Bowl. The San Francisco 49ers ousted Philadelphia, 23-19, in a wild-card playoff game.
