The Miami Dolphins are in the midst of a full rebuild, something that was never more evident than when they traded Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos.

Now, according to Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom, there is a belief in league circles that running back De’Von Achane may not be far behind.

“The Waddle trade also has increased chatter about the future of standout running De’Von Achane in Miami, with opinions varied about the likelihood he stays in Miami long term,” La Canfora wrote.

The big issue the Dolphins face in trading Achane is it will leave the cupboard even more bare on offense for new quarterback Malik Willis, who already has the deck stacked against him on what is the worst offense in the NFL.

Achane is the last remaining proven talent on that side of the ball for Miami after his career-best 2025 year that saw him tally over 1,800 yards from scrimmage while cementing himself as one of the most explosive backs in the NFL.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that the Dolphins are not interested in trading the Pro Bowl running back, but that was largely the sentiment with Waddle before the Broncos gave up a huge haul to acquire him.

Knowing that, a trade for Achane, who is also in the final year of his contract, can’t totally be ruled out, whether that happens soon or at the trade deadline.

Two teams we could see make a play for Achane are the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks, both of whom have shaky running back situations.

In Washington, the Commanders don’t have a surefire starter in a room that includes Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White, Jerome Ford and Jeremy McNichols.

Seattle lost Kenneth Walker to the Kansas City Chiefs and the Seahawks are now lacking an established starting option. The closest thing they have to that is Zach Charbonnet, who may not even be ready for the start of the season.

Achane would be a massive upgrade for either team, but it remains to be seen if the Seahawks or Commanders would be willing to give up the kind of haul it would likely take, a haul that probably starts with a first-round pick.
