Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has had an interesting offseason, mainly due to the horror playoff performance that helped dump his team out of the postseason.

The first four interceptions were horrible, and such was C.J.’s performance that some thought it was time to move on from Stroud.

That is a big call, but after regressing every year since his rookie campaign, the pressure on Stroud has never been greater.

And here comes Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. In answering fan mail, Breer was asked which quarterback is under the most pressure in 2026.

And his answer was Stroud.

“I’d say C.J. Stroud, just because he’s had a two-year downturn after an incredible rookie year, and that Texans team is loaded everywhere, and very ready to compete for a championship,” Breer wrote. “If Houston decides to wait on doing a second contract with him, then the pressure’s only turned up another notch.

“All that’s part of the territory, though, when you’ve shown the potential that Stroud has.”

Stroud facing defining 2026 season

Since his stellar rookie season, Stroud has been on a path of steady regression, and that isn’t what anyone wants to see.

With the Texans built to win now and go deep into the playoffs, Houston will only go as far as Stroud takes them. And that means C.J. has to take his play up a notch.

Can he do it? Well, Houston’s playoff hopes will depend on it. Also, his long-term future might depend on it as well.

If he has another down year, the conversations around Stroud’s future won’t make for good listening.

Year 4 is a massive one for C.J.
