Three Miller County football players sign with Thomas University

  • March 26, 2026

COLQUITT, Ga. (WALB) – Three Miller County High School football players signed to continue their athletic careers at Thomas University.

Dontravious Burr, Gabriel Lopez and Dru Johnson will play together at the college level after spending four years as teammates with the Pirates.

The proximity to home and the opportunity to continue playing with each other influenced their decision to sign with Thomas University.

“Playing four years in high school… it can only get better in college playing with some of my best friends,” Lopez said.

Johnson said the campus visit helped solidify his choice.

“After our first visit there, it felt more like home. It’s close enough for my parents to travel and be with me. And just being able to play with my guys. I knew they got offered so I was like why not have a reunion,” Johnson said.

Johnson, a quarterback, will continue throwing to two of his high school receivers at Thomas University.

“Our brotherhood carries on to college and it makes me excited to be able to suit up with my brothers again,” Johnson said.

Burr said he plans to make an immediate impact.

“My goal is to make an immediate impact, have a really good season, and maybe transfer to another school,” Burr said.

The three players credited the Miller County community, Coach Yates and Coach Causey for their support in reaching the college level.
