The Philadelphia Eagles are in a strange spot right now in the offseason. If you ask some Eagles fans, they’ll tell you the sky is falling and that the team might as well already look to the season after next. Others will rely on the history of Howie Roseman to have faith that there is still work that will be done.

The Eagles entered this offseason needing the answers to a lot of questions, and many have been answered to this point.

They fixed their problem at the offensive coordinator spot, and the players seem to be excited. They handled free agency decently, and while they lost some defensive pillars, they brought in Riq Woolen and re-signed some solid players in-house.

Next on the to-do list for Philly is making a decision on AJ Brown and knocking yet another draft out of the park.

With the 23rd overall pick in the first round, the Eagles have been mocked to take a ton of positions, ranging from tight end to safety to edge to offensive line.

Bleacher Report’s latest mock draft has the Philadelphia Eagles selecting Malachi Lawrence, an edge rusher out of the University of Central Florida. It’s a solid defensive draft for sure, so it could make sense for Roseman to further build out his defensive line.

The last three seasons at UCF, Lawrence recorded 70 total tackles, 19.5 sacks, and 27.5 TFL. Solid production, but it doesn’t scream ‘automatic first round pick’. What helps his stock is his athleticism.

Lawrence is a raw athlete who recorded a relative athletic score of 9.94, which is outstanding and falls in the elite category. With his athleticism and frame of 6’4 “, 253 lbs, he received comparisons by RAS to players like Josh Sweat, Brian Burns, and Danielle Hunter.

The Eagles just lost Jaelan Phillips this offseason, and this is not to say Lawrence will become any of those players he was compared to, but if Howie Roseman is able to pair that potential outside of guys like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, the Eagles’ defensive line could be getting even scarier.
