THE STORY. THE RAVENS WILL NOT BE BORING, THE TEAM TOLD US TODAY. EVEN THOUGH IT APPEARS THEY ENTERED A CONTEST LAST MONTH TO DO JUST THAT. THIS IS BORING WITH A CAPITAL B, NOT LOWERCASE KAI REED AS IN ELON MUSK’S STARTUP THE BORING COMPANY. LAST MONTH, THE RAVENS APPARENTLY ENTERED A CONTEST CALLED THE TUNNEL VISION CHALLENGE TO GET A FREE ONE MILE UNDERGROUND TUNNEL BUILT IN BALTIMORE, LIKE THE ONE THE COMPANY CONSTRUCTED IN LAS VEGAS ON TUESDAY ON X, THE BORING COMPANY ANNOUNCED BALTIMORE WAS ONE OF THREE WINNERS, AND OUR CITY WAS GETTING A FREE TUNNEL THAT WOULD BE CALLED THE RAVENS LOOP. THE RAVENS CALLED IT A COMPELLING OPPORTUNITY WHEN WE ASKED THE TEAM, BUT INDICATED THEY’RE BACKING OUT OF THE PROPOSAL, WHAT WAS THAT PROPOSAL? WE ASKED FOR DETAILS AS WELL AS WHO DID YOU LOOP IN ON THE PLAN? WOULD IT BE HERE, UNDERNEATH, NEXT TO OR NEAR THE STADIUM, WHICH THE TEAM DOESN’T OWN OR CONTROL? SOURCES TELL 11 NEWS THE RAVENS ENTERED THE CONTEST ALL ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT COLLABORATING WITH OR NOTIFYING ANY PUBLIC, OFFICIAL OR AGENCY, INCLUDING BALTIMORE CITY. HERE’S WHAT THE MAYOR HAD TO SAY WHEN WE CAUGHT UP WITH HIM TODAY BUILDING THIS TUNNEL IN BALTIMORE CITY. WHAT’S YOUR REACTION TO THAT AND WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE IDEA? EVERYONE KNOWS I LOVE MY FOOTBALL TEAM DEARLY, BUT I WHOLEHEARTEDLY SUPPORT THEIR DECISION TO PULL OUT THIS APPLICATION BECAUSE, QUITE FRANKLY, THEY COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT MY APPROVAL OR THE GOVERNOR’S APPROVAL. AND I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF. IT WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT I WOULD BE APPROVING. WE’VE SENT EMAILS TO BORING ASKING WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO DIG HERE WITHOUT THE CITY SUPPORT OR THE STATE SUPPORT? AND NO DETAILS INCLUDED FROM THE RAVENS IN THE STATEMENT THEY SENT US. BUT IT DOES READ IN PART. WHILE WE APPRECIATE BEING SELECTED FOLLOWING DISCUSSIONS WITH PUBLIC PARTNERS, WE HAVE DETERMINED WE WILL NOT CONTINUE WITH THE PROCESS AT THIS TIME.
