He could be signed to a one-year contract, also known as a “prove-it” deal. Where the veteran tries his level best, and the team appreciates his efforts, he may be re-signed for another/next season. That’s what happened with 41-year-old Joe Flacco. He stood up for the Cincinnati Bengals when their star quarterback Joe Burrow met with a grade 3 toe turf injury.Flacco recorded 1,664 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 91.0 passing rating in just nine games for them. They had signed him for a year in 2025; they were so impressed, they brought him back for their 2026 campaign [in case Burrow is injured again].Anyhow, this is how veterans are given opportunities, and the same could be done with Clowney. So, how does he fit into Micah Parsons’ Packers? Let’s draw the picture.

NFL Trade Rumors: Micah Parsons’ Packers linked to Cowboys OLB Jadeveon Clowney

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reports that behind Parsons, there are only four players now: 2023 first round pick Lukas Van Ness who is still looking for a breakout season, 2025 late-round picks Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver [still new to gridiron], and Brenton Cox Jr. who had four sacks in seven games in 2024 and missed majority of 2025 due to severe groin injury and recorded five total tackles [two solo].The Packers traded Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round draft pick. And they let Kingsley Enagbare go after his contract had expired. The defensive lineman signed a one-year, $10M contract with the New York Jets.Anyhow, this is the scenario of Jordan Love-led Green Bay DEs. Schneidman reports that if Parsons misses a few games, would this group of four players handle the fort in his absence? Parsons suffered an ACL tear in Dec. 2025. He may miss the first four games of 2026.As per SB Nation’s Justis Mosqueda, Parsons may be ready to start practising with the team before he’s actually allowed to practice with the team. However, on paper, he’s good to go by Week 5 of the Packers’ season. This is where the Dak Prescott-led Dallas Cowboys OLB Jadeveon Clowney comes in.

Green Bay could sign Dallas OLB on one year deal

The Athletic’s Daniel Popper reports he’s a valuable No. 2 edge defender. The 33-year-old ranked 4th among all players with at least 200 pass-rush snaps with a 19.1 percent pressure rate. He recorded 41 total tackles [24 solo], 8.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, four passes defended, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble over 13 games in 2025 alone.Heavy Sports’ Dave Holcomb reports Green Bay could add Clowney on a one-year contract. According to Spotrac’s calculated market value, the veteran is projected to sign a one-year contract worth $5.7M, which gives him an average annual income of $5.7M. His total career earnings over 12 years are $100M.Now, would the Packers add additional help behind Parsons? Remains to be seen…
