With NFL free agency at a near standstill, we will be evaluating the current state of each Indianapolis Colts’ position group, specifically, where things stand and whether or not more moves need to be made.
GM Chris Ballard has now made nine outside free agent signings over the last week-plus, along with re-signing a number of the Colts‘ own free agents.

However, there is still work to be done, as the Colts still have several roster holes to address. The good news is that the Colts have a good amount of salary cap space to work with.
In the draft, the Colts are without a first-round pick and have a modest seven selections in total.

What is the need at defensive tackle for the Colts after free agency?
With the additions that the Colts made at this position this offseason, adding to defensive tackle in the draft is no longer a need. If the Colts went into training camp with this group — or maybe an additional UDFA signing — they would be fine.

However, the draft is also about planning ahead, and if we look to the 2027 offseason, none of the players currently on the roster are under contract. The prudent move for Ballard would be to begin preparing for that by making an addition — or two — now.
But that may not be a luxury the Colts have. With relatively limited draft capital, the Colts currently have more pressing needs in what is a must-win season.
