Jalen Ramsey and the Miami Dolphins are headed toward a mutual breakup. One side seems more excited about it than the other.

The Dolphins announced they’d seek a trade for the three-time All-Pro cornerback back in April before the 2025 NFL Draft. While Ramsey didn’t formally request to be dealt, both sides agreed it was the best path moving forward following a reported clash between the defensive back and head coach Mike McDaniel. But no team managed to meet Miami’s asking price before the draft, leaving Ramsey in limbo as the calendar barreled toward June 2 — the first day a player can be released or traded and have his dead salary cap space hit spread out over multiple years.

That date is only five days away. Ramsey is fully aware it is on the horizon.

Dealing Ramsey would further overhaul a secondary set to break in two new starters at safety this fall. The veteran missed the Pro Bowl for the first time in eight years last season, but his 83.5 passer rating allowed and 6.5 yards per target were both above average numbers even in his age 30 season. He can be a valuable addition for a contender — but it looks like it will be five more days, per Ramsey’s math, before we see just how valuable other NFL teams see him.
