The Denver Broncos appear to be in the market for a third-string running back.

Earlier this month, the Broncos “checked on” free agent running back Chris Rodriguez, according to a report from the Denver Post’s Luca Evans. Then, after the team re-signed J.K. Dobbins on a two-year deal, they “still expressed interest in adding Rodriguez,” according to Evans.

Rodriguez ultimately decided to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he seemingly has a clearer path to regular playing time after Travis Etienne left during free agency. The Broncos, meanwhile, are likely still seeking an RB3.

Dobbins and RJ Harvey seem poised to serve as the team’s top two backs again in 2026. Tyler Badie served as a third-down receiving/blocking back last season, and he’s returning along with Jaleel McLaughlin. Denver will presumably target additional depth and competition at running back during the NFL draft next month.

The Broncos hold seven draft picks this year, including Nos. 62 (second round), 108 (fourth round) and 111 (fourth round). It wouldn’t be surprising to see the team target a running back at one of those spots.
