The NFL Annual League Meeting takes place in Phoenix, Arizona, beginning this Sunday. The meetings, where owners, coaches, and other team executives gather to discuss possible rule changes and league business, will run to Wednesday, April 1.

For the New York Giants, it’s unclear who will be representing them this spring in Phoenix.

They are usually represented by co-owner John Mara, who serves on the league’s competition committee, but that may not be the case this year as Mara is dealing with cancer treatments.

Another co-owner, Chairman Steve Tisch, is in the process of transferring his 23 percent stake of the club to his children’s trusts. He has not been publicly involved in team business since his name was revealed in the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files earlier this year.

The Tisch family has owned a half-stake of the Giants since 1990, and that likely won’t change anytime soon, but the face of that faction will as Steve Tisch effectively phases himself out.

The Giants appear to be going through a shift in their ranks. There are only six people on the team’s board of directors. The Maras are represented by John, his brother, Chris, and their sister, Susan McDonnell. The Tisches are represented by Steve, his brother, Jonathan, who serves as the team’s treasurer, and their sister, Laurie.

Chris Mara, whose official title is “senior player personnel director,” has been the point man for several of the team’s major moves this offseason, most notably the courting and hiring of John Harbaugh as head coach. He could be asked to step up and be the face of the Giants for the foreseeable future.

Chris has been active in the college recruiting process. He was present at Ohio State’s pro day on Wednesday in Columbus. That’s nothing new. He’s always done that, but now he could be asked to do more.

The younger Mara has a different style than his older brother. He has been more involved in the personnel end over the years and could be a more “hands-on” leader.

The Giants also have empowered Harbaugh, making him and general manager Joe Schoen partners in personnel decisions, and pushed many of the financial and strategic administrative duties to recently-hired Dawn Aponte, a longtime NFL executive.

Those moves will alleviate the stress on ownership as the team navigates through this trying transition.
