With Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer and his staff winding down Pro Day visits across the state, the scouting info will now be followed by 30 allowed meetings with college prospects before next month’s NFL Draft.

Shortly after that, along with the front office’s attendance at the league meetings in Phoenix next week, the Cowboys will welcome local products for a pre-draft workout and private visit in what is colloquially called “Dallas Day”.

One of the confirmed visitors is a familiar name to the organization and its fan base.

Former Texas A&M running back EJ Smith, son of Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, has said he will work out at The Star in Frisco and talk with Cowboys executives.

Cowboys ‘Violent’ Target Sonny Styles Coming to Dallas For Top-30 Visit Dallas looks to shore up its defense in this year’s NFL Draft, especially at the linebacker position. Ohio State LB Sonny Styles could be the answer.

This news comes after Smith put together a solid showing at the Aggies’ Pro Day on Wednesday, one of the three sessions Schottenheimer attended in consecutive days (including Texas and Texas Tech).

Smith’s measurable results gave evaluators something to notice as he tries to improve his draft stock. He posted a 10-foot broad jump, a 35.5-inch vertical, and 20 reps on the bench press at 225 pounds this week. For a running back who battled injuries earlier in his college career, that kind of Pro Day performance helped reinforce his athletic profile and physical style.

He totaled 969 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in his college career, which includes time spent at Texas A&M and Stanford.

After joining the Aggies before the 2024 season, Smith carved out a role providing experienced depth in the backfield. With Le’Veon Moss sidelined late in 2025, Smith became more important in the rotation alongside Rueben Owens and Jamarion Morrow.

At Jesuit in Dallas, Smith was a prep star, rushing for 3,072 yards and 60 career touchdowns.

Smith was not one of the initial Aggies who received a dinner invite with Cowboys brass, but he will surely be one of the top focuses at Dallas Day as he’s hopeful to pursue his dream of following in his father’s footsteps.

Dallas holds two first-round picks and is widely expected to favor the defensive side of the ball at the top of the draft. However, a late-round investment in a familiar prospect like Smith could still be in the cards.

The Cowboys re-signed starting running back Javonte Williams to a three-year contract earlier this offseason. Last year, Dallas drafted two running backs in Day 3 of the draft (Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah) but neither have carved themselves a legitimate role on the roster.

Emmitt, of course, is one of the most iconic players in Cowboys history. He became the NFL’s all-time leading rusher – a title he still holds over two decades later – and is a three-time Super Bowl champion with the franchise.

But this meeting isn’t just about a last name; it’s about a DFW native earning the opportunity to showcase his skills a prove that he’s capable of making the jump into the NFL.
