The Cincinnati Bengals have one of the best offensive units in the entire NFL. Joe Burrow is a great quarterback, and with Chase Brown at running back, the backfield in Cincinnati is in a very good spot.

But, the highlight of the team is at wide receiver, with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins leading the room, and making what could be the best WR duo in the entire NFL.

However, one of those WR’s, specifically Higgins, was called the Bengals’ “most overpaid player” by Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon this offseason.

Tee Higgins called Bengals most overpaid player

“For the third consecutive season, Cincinnati’s ‘other’ receiver is the clear-cut ‘winner’ here,” Gagnon writes. “Higgins did score a career-high 11 touchdowns in 2025, but he fell short of 1,000 yards for the third year in a row. It’s wild that he’s one of the 12 highest-paid receivers in the league with a $28.8 million AAV.”

Gagnon strongly believes that Higgins is the most overpaid player for the Bengals. While he is being paid a lot, with a $115 million deal through 2028, there is a reason for this.

Burrow implored the Bengals to splurge on Higgins to keep the Chase-Higgins duo at wide receiver intact. And while the Bengals are spending a ton on their WR room, it might be worth it.

Higgins hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2022, but he is still a great receiver, recording at least 10 touchdowns each of the last two seasons (11 in 2025).

If the Bengals had that $28.8 million instead of spending it on Higgins, the team would be able to vastly improve the defense.

But, there would still be a huge hole at the number two wide receiver spot, something that’s a lot more valuable in the NFL than it’s been in the past.

Besides, the Bengals aren’t getting the high-profile production from Higgins since Chase is eating up the bulk of the work.

Chase will almost always outproduce Higgins, as he’s the best WR in the NFL. But, Higgins can not only be a great option in the receiving game, but also help Chase get open and have such dominant seasons in the NFL.

While Gagnon might be calling Higgins the most overpaid Bengals player, there is a reason for this big deal, and it’s not a bad idea for Cincinnati to spend so much on their offense in an offense-driven league.
