Over the course of the last few seasons, the New Orleans Saints have had no real defining unit on their team. While Drew Brees and the offensive line were the keys to the prolonged success of the previous regime, the gap years between then and now have been marred by identity-less football. This is not only detrimental to the team’s success, but also their mentality, as having one unit you can always rely on, even in tough games, gives you an anchor to build from.
With the 2026 NFL season growing closer by the day, it has become abundantly clear which unit Kellen Moore is putting all his chips into. The offensive line has rapidly improved under Moore, both from a roster and production standpoint, with Kelvin Banks Jr. being their first-round selection last offseason, and David Edwards being signed this spring.
One of the most intriguing parts about this is that now, with the starters likely locked in depending on the right guard spot, former Saints tackle Terron Armstead is teaching several of them, providing them with opportunities to learn from his vast experience and knowledge from years of NFL success. Armstead famously learned from Willie Roaf early in his career with the Saints, and personal coaching from a Pro Football Hall of Famer helped him earn All-Pro and Pro Bowl recognition. Now Armstead is sharing those lessons with the next man up at left tackle: Kelvin Banks Jr.
As can be seen in the videos Armstead shared on social media, multiple Saints offensive linemen are getting in reps early, with Armstead leading, notably Banks and Cesar Ruiz. This is something that could pay huge dividends when the season rolls around, as getting ready any way you can for the first weeks is a positive, especially when it involves learning from someone with so much experience playing at this level.
Hopefully, this will continue in the coming weeks, and more Saints linemen will get involved. With Taliese Fuaga currently in France representing the team alongside Tyler Shough, it will be fun to see if he also joins upon his return.
