A former Miami Dolphins wide receiver expressed his desire to return to the NFL

Under previous general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel, the Miami Dolphins had a tendency to go after big-name superstars. On some occasions, like the Tyreek Hill trade, the player revolutionized the franchise and became franchise cornerstones. Some, like Jalen Ramsey, had moderate levels of success as they performed well individually, but potentially harmed the team long-term.

There were also instances of the Dolphins going after aging superstars, which Miami would result in much-needed veteran leadership while also producing on the field. Defensive lineman Calais Campbell was the best-case scenario of that strategy as he produced at a Pro Bowl level despite his age, and also cemented himself as one of the leaders of the Dolphins during that 2024 season.

That season also featured a former superstar who signed with the Dolphins; however, his season turned out much differently, as he failed to carve out a role.

Former Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Expresses Desire to Return to NFL

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2024 season, as the Dolphins looked for a receiver to complement Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Now, the former Dolphins wide receiver expressed his desire to return to the NFL, as he told Kay Adams he’s, “looking forward to hopefully getting an opportunity to play this year, and hopefully, this is kinda just a starting point.” This comes after Beckham participated in a flag football event by Fanatics.

After a season with the Ravens, that had not been up to Beckham’s standard during the prime of his career, but remained productive. Beckham’s contract with the Dolphins could have been worth up to $8.25 million if he hit certain incentives, but it soon became clear that the receiver was past his prime.

Beckham appeared in nine games for the Dolphins and totaled a career-low 55 receiving yards without scoring a touchdown. He was then released during the season as the Dolphins third receiver role had gone to rookie receiver Malik Washington.

The veteran wide receiver did not sign with a team during the 2025 season, but was suspended six games by the NFL for a PED violation.

Dolphins Wide Receivers

Two years removed from signing Beckham as the cherry on top of a star-studded receiver room, Hill and Waddle are also no longer on the Dolphins. Their top two outside receivers are free agent additions Tutu Atwell and Jalen Tolbert, who both failed to surpass 200 receiving yards during the 2025 season.

After their 2024 experience with Beckham, and the team looking to get younger on the roster, a reunion is likely not in the works. However, the Dolphins could look to the draft to improve the depth at the position.

The team has seven picks inside of the first three rounds. The Dolphins have not selected a wide receiver in the first three rounds since drafting Jaylen Waddle with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
