Myles Garrett #95 of the Cleveland Browns looks on during the second quarter in the game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on October 26, 2025 in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The Detroit Lions remain equipped with the draft capital to make a move on the trade market in the coming weeks and months, but it doesn’t appear that Myles Garrett will be there for them if they do.

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry spoke with reporters at the NFL’s annual meeting in Phoenix on Sunday, March 29 and stated that the team does not plan to trade Garrett even after adjusting his contract language last week to make doing so easier every offseason from now until his $160 million extension expires following the 2030 campaign.

“lf we wanted to trade Myles, we wouldn’t have needed to make a contract adjustment. So it doesn’t have anything to do with that,” Berry explained. “Myles is a career Brown. He is one of the faces of our organization. I think we’ve been very clear both past and present.”

Analysts have mentioned Detroit as a potential destination for Garrett, if Cleveland puts him on the market at any point, as well as Las Vegas Raiders edge-rusher Maxx Crosby to serve as a pairing alongside superstar defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.

Adding either Garrett or Crosby to the mix in Detroit would create perhaps the best pass-rush tandem in the league and, coupled with the Lions’ elite offense, would likely render the team immediate Super Bowl contenders.

Detroit has added an edge-rusher already this offseason in former Minnesota Vikings starter DJ Wonnum.

That signing, plus the team’s other moves, led ESPN’s Ben Solak to extoll the virtues of the Lions’ roster after the first couple weeks of free agency as among the most improved league-wide.

“Wonnum is ideally a No. 3 edge instead of a No. 2 option, but opposite Aidan Hutchinson, he can fill the Al-Quadin Muhammad shoes and then some,” Solak wrote.

Lions Primed for Super Bowl Swing Now

Detroit’s offseason, to this point, has been defined by high-upside moves on value contracts for players like Wonnum, center Cade Mays and backup running back Isiah Pacheco. But there has been no addition that might actually swing the balance of power in the NFC or the NFL as a whole.

Making a monster trade for the likes of Garrett or Crosby would serve as such a move, and fits in Detroit better than most places given the team’s level of competitiveness over the past three years (three winning records, two division titles, two playoff appearances and one NFC championship game berth) and how long it can reasonably expect to keep the current Super Bowl window ajar.

The Lions are about to get considerably more expensive with contract extensions likely coming for some, or all, of the following players: running back Jahmyr Gibbs, linebacker Jack Campbell, safety Brian Branch and tight end Sam LaPorta. That could argue for taking a swing with valuable draft capital and paying Garrett big now to try and win a ring in the next season or two.

But the other line of thinking is that incremental improvements and a bit of injury luck, which the Lions have not had over the past three seasons, is enough to keep them in play for a title. Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus rated the Lions No. 6 overall in his post-free agency power rankings.

“Despite coming up short of a playoff berth in 2025, the Lions were incredibly efficient, ranking fifth in the NFL in both PFF team offensive (82.8) and defensive (81.9) grading,” Cameron wrote. “Although they weren’t terribly active on the open market, Detroit maintains a strong core of talent.”
