They say you can’t teach speed, and that is mostly true. If the Lions want to add speed to the safety position, they may want to grab Lorenzo Styles in the upcoming draft. There are some medical concerns though, which may cause some hesitation on the Lions part.

Here is the excerpt of my medical report on Styles:

Lorenzo Styles, S (24) – Ohio State

Projected round 4-7. 4.27 40-yard dash at combine, fastest by safety since 2003.

Concern level 6/10

Styles is ludicrously fast, but hasn’t been able to outrun a slew of shoulder issues over the past year, even after already having surgery. His older age is also a factor.

The fact that Styles is this athletic and has played so many games in college, yet hasn’t gone to the NFL prior to this, suggests that his play doesn’t match his athleticism. He did not collect a single interception in his career. However, he might go higher than expected because you can’t teach speed.
