Another week begins with Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown still on the Eagles’ roster.

Brown, 28, gave the Eagles a list of his four preferred trade destinations, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. Those teams were the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, and New England Patriots. Breer reported that the Bills were out of contention when they traded for DJ Moore, while the Chargers and Chiefs “didn’t show much interest at all.”

The Los Angeles Rams briefly entered the picture, but Breer was skeptical of the Rams’ intentions, and ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reported the Rams were “scared off by some of the preliminary medical research.”

So, the Eagles and Patriots appear to be in some sort of staring contest.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman didn’t budge on Sunday.

“I understand that there’s interest in the A.J. Brown story,” Roseman said at the NFL‘s annual league meeting, per ESPN’s Tim McManus. “I, unfortunately, don’t have a home under a rock. But my answer to any question on A.J. Brown is A.J. Brown is a member of the Eagles. From my perspective, anything you ask me about A.J. Brown, I’m going to go right back to that answer. But I understand the interest. I put on TV, and I see that there’s interest, but my answer is A.J. Brown is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.”

Last week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter told The Pat McAfee Show that the Eagles are not “in a rush” to move Brown.

“If they made the move, it would come after June 1,” Schefter said. “A lot of people have connected the Patriots to AJ Brown. That’s a logical landing spot for A.J. Brown. But what we don’t know is what’s gonna happen with New England from now until June 1.”

Schefter continued, “New England could, for all we know, bring back Stefon Diggs. They could go sign some of these other wide receivers that are out there. They could go draft a wide receiver. And if any of those things happen, then that would probably take them out of the A.J. Brown market.”

Schefter also emphasized that there is “no under-the-table handshake agreement” between the Eagles and Patriots, and the two teams are not just waiting until after June 1 as a formality.

Brown grew up a Patriots fan. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, then the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, drafted Brown in 2019 and coached him in Tennessee until the Titans traded him to Philly on draft day in 2022.

Brown posted 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first season with the Eagles, followed by 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns on a career-high 106 catches in 2023.

The Eagles’ offense started to revolve around All-Pro running back Saquon Barkley after he signed with Philly in 2024, and even though the Eagles won the Super Bowl, Brown said he wasn’t satisfied.

In 2025, Brown’s role dwindled further — sometimes invisible for a half or entire games — although the entire Eagles offense grossly underperformed under since-fired offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. In early December, Philly led the league in 3-and-outs.

Brown recorded 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns on a career-low 12.9 yards per reception for the 11-6 Eagles, who lost to San Francisco in the NFC Wild Card. Throughout the season, Brown repeatedly expressed his frustration publicly. See a full timeline here, courtesy of The Sporting News.
